Colin creates multi-faceted paintings of contemporary life. He began to paint shops and buildings with glass windows and their reflected images. These paintings, based on extensive photographic studies, capture the evanescence of the reflections – producing rich narratives.

His oil paintings provide fine details which are almost invisible to the naked eye: whereas the camera lens can freeze fast-moving layers of detail which give depth and intensity which only artistic transformation can achieve. His stunning and cleverly engaging paintings take you beyond the reflective surfaces.

He has also produced a parallel series of paintings which he calls his ‘Transport Collection’; seen through the windows of cars, buses and trams, reflecting life in other countries.

Oil on canvas, 80x65cms

Karl’s name floats between reflected images of ghostly mannequins, coloured awnings, the Post Office and a spectacular floral display.

Oil on canvas, 244x91cms

A cross-section of Beijing life. The reflected patterns on the closed windows contrast well with the sharper-focused images seen through open windows.
