COLLECTIONS: WINDOWS

Louis Vuitton, Paris 2016
Oil on canvas 152x122cms
Louis Vuitton's name is written with coloured balloons that float behind the mannequins, creating an explosive composition.

Karl Welsh 4, Lymm 2010
Oil on canvas 152x122cms
There are only limited reflections on the window of the florist's beautiful shop. Can you find a section of the post office, a colour awning and the postman's bike?

Libertines in Chicago, 2021
Oil on canvas 112x152cms
A chaotic melee of buildings, trees and traffic reflected onto an outrageous window display of a libertine lifestyle in the city centre

The Coffee House, 2020
Oil on canvas 91x122cms
Three waitresses on the right of the painting are standing behind a cake-filled glass cabinet. They are overlaid by the reflections from within the cafe and from the street. The four remaining figures in the left half of the painting are reflected. They are actually behind the viewer, as are the 'tiny' owners, on the staircase, across the street.

Double Reflection

Reflection: Harrods

Reflection: London Bus

If you look closely, the Harrods painting with the Teddy Bear, the Christmas cracker and shoes, also includes reflected street furniture and images of buildings across the road.

Even harder to see, at the centre of the painting, is a small reflection of a London Bus. Can you spot it?

Seeing the reflection of the bus gave me an idea.

The bus stop was behind me, so I turned around and photographed the next bus that stopped. The red cracker and lights from Harrods window are reflected and cut across the passengers.
Two Paintings; two very different Christmas Stories…
